Recycling Unusual Items

A couple of weeks ago a friend of mine was wondering where to recycle regular old batteries.  A good question, as most of us probably have no idea, and tossing them in the trash is a big no-no!  This got me thinking — there are so many things that need to be recycled that we don’t have the option of putting in our curbside recycling cans, if you’re lucky enough to have even that option.

So what do I consider unusual?

  • Aerosol Cans

  • Computer Ink/Toner

  • Mobile Phones

  • Motor Oil

  • Rechargeable Batteries

  • Single Use Batteries

  • Computers

  • Mattresses

  • Scrap Metal

  • Styrofoam

  • TV’s

  • Tires

I could go on and on about random things some people would never think to recycle.  The places and resources needed to do just that are endless.   This will only be relevant to those of you who live in the United States, but nonetheless I hope it sparks an interest in those of you who live abroad to search for recycling centers near you.

If you haven’t discovered Earth911.com yet, you will love it!  Not only can you search any item you would like to recycle, but by entering your zip code you’ll get the location(s) nearest you.  Remember if you can’t repair it, sell it, trade it, or donate it…find out if you can recycle it!
